Yojika Systems Private Limited builds offline-first software — its own products, and the websites, apps and automation that other companies need. We are small, we are specific about what we do, and we would rather show you a running system than a deck.
Not a software person who studied shops.
Sathya Sankar started as a daily-wage labourer in cardamom plantations and on construction sites, went through a mechanical engineering degree that never turned into an engineering job, and spent years as a CNC operator, a call-centre agent and a school teacher — the highest salary in any of them was ₹15,000 a month.
In 2020 he ran a kirana store in Kerala through the pandemic and used a competing billing product at his own counter every day for a year. He knows what that software gets wrong because he was the one standing behind the counter when it got it wrong.
He taught himself to program from 2018 onwards, in the evenings, while working. Since 2024 he has been the principal engineer at a US software company, where he has written more of the codebase than the next four contributors combined. Yojika Systems is what he built with what he learned.
- Childhood
Daily-wage work in cardamom plantations and on construction sites. Government and aided Malayalam-medium schools through class 12.
- 2011–2015
BE Mechanical Engineering. Then no engineering job — a CNC machine operator, a customer-care agent, a telesales agent.

Started teaching himself to program. Python, on a laptop, in the evenings, while working.
- 2020
Ran a kirana store in Kerala through COVID and sold on Amazon. Used a competing billing product at his own counter every day for a year.

High school teacher in Bihar. Kept studying — data science in 2023.
- 2024
Founding engineer at a US software company, and still its principal engineer. Wrote more of that codebase than the next four contributors combined.

Incorporated Yojika Systems Private Limited and shipped Yojika.
Constraints are the interesting part
Anyone can build software for a fast machine on a good connection. The work worth doing is the version that survives 4 GB of RAM, one bar of signal and a queue of customers. We take those constraints as the specification, not as an excuse.
Small is a feature of the company too
We are two people and we say so. It means you talk to whoever is writing the code, decisions take a day rather than a sprint, and we turn down work we cannot do properly. It also means we are honest about capacity before you commit anything.
Say the disappointing thing early
If a project should not be built, or should be built by someone else, or will cost more than you hoped, we say so on the first call. That is cheaper for both of us than finding out in month three.
A real registered company.
Incorporated in India under the Companies Act, 2013. We invoice with GST and pay our taxes, which should be unremarkable and often is not.
